Much of what is built today is on such a large scale that the human element is almost totally lost. Smaller spaces can not only be cozy, but also beautiful, practical and fun to live in.
How much space do you really need to live well? How much of what you have actually enriches your life and how much of it just ties you down and requires dusting?
I hope this blog to be a travelogue, if you will, of things and ideas that inspire me to reexamine the way I think about living small and living well.

Having always grown up in places were space was premium, I was a little overwhelmed my first year of college where I was sharing a room that could have easily belonged to four freshman with only one other guy. After that, I found myself gravitating to a dorm with much smaller rooms, no roommates and a communal kitchen (I love to cook). When people have more space, I notice they feel the need to fill it with things to make them feel comfortable and at home. These very things that make them feel safe also contribute to making then feel they have to spend all their time saving for, accumulating, and worrying how to take care of said things…
I find that in smaller spaces, I actually need less and so enjoy the freedom of not having to accumulate stuff just to fill a larger space that I do not really use or want. Small spaces are cozy, intimate and are best with large windows that allow for lots of light and a bit of a view if possible.
I am going to continue to put up products that I find and like, but it might be good to keep in mind that I do not have most of these things and I am honestly just as well off without most of them. But when I see something like this couch that reclines and also turns into a queen size bed, I love that here is something that is highly useful, practical in a small space, but also is interesting and carefully designed. Like being on a sail boat, where no space goes unused and in most cases has multiple uses; while sailing and then at night or at anchor. Who is up for a sail?
