Much of what is built today is on such a large scale that the human element is almost totally lost. Smaller spaces can not only be cozy, but also beautiful, practical and fun to live in.
How much space do you really need to live well? How much of what you have actually enriches your life and how much of it just ties you down and requires dusting?
I hope this blog to be a travelogue, if you will, of things and ideas that inspire me to reexamine the way I think about living small and living well.

I love how lightly this building touches the landscape and yet still fits right into its surrounding environment. With a steel frame, concrete floor system and sustainable wood walls and ceiling and corrugated steel siding, the simplicity of this building belies the great thought that went into creating it. The more temperate climate of Australia makes houses like this far easier to build, not having to go through the intense temperature differences we face here in New England. But I can almost see a similar house built here, resembling the old covered bridges that used to be so abundant.
